building house steps – How to Build a Treehouse in the Backyard
I didn’t mind the heat, I was only glad to be out. Yet it did impede the rate of the progress at the construction website. It was grinding work between digging, mixing concrete, laying blocks, and bending rebar, all of which I had little to no working knowledge in.
I’ll admit that construction houses was not in my own job description. As I sat there with my back against a tree I poured a half jar of cool water over my head. A grin crossed my head, not because I felt joyful, however because I had been truly pleased. I recognized a gentle breeze that unexpectedly swept across the scene and took my own thoughts with it. My mind began to wonder. Just how can I get here?
Wasn’t there something more alive than regular and monotony? Occasionally I’d often wonder if many people were really getting up in the morning inspired by the work that they were doing and how their lifestyles were unfolding. I needed a change. I needed to eventually become consciously involved with something positive which will provide me with a sense of purpose. Does that even exist, and if so where do I register? Perhaps it’s easier said than done. But, I finally chose and started to see this fantasy when I traveled to Costa Rica to a whim and found myself volunteering with Habitat for Humanity International. Can one person really transform the world? I wanted to discover.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and making decent, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and activity. Habitat just started a fresh International Volunteer Program (IVP) for long term volunteers and that I was the very first to experience the application. My official title was that the Volunteer Coordinator for Latin America & the Caribbean. I felt that this is an enormous opportunity since the organization was built and existed on the support of volunteers. Beginning I had been somewhat on edge, but in the time I found my groove over the Habitat frame. It was unbelievable – that I was actually enjoying off ice job. I took part in the creation of substances like an volunteer manual, meeting guides, and evaluation forms. I worked with a taskforce for the continuous improvement of the IVP program. I even administered an on-site volunteer training program at El Salvador. The best part in my job was getting to work along with other volunteers, people who were there not because that they had to function but have there been only because they wished to be.
So far as the volunteers were concerned my job was to coordinate home and arrival logistics, administer orientations, and encourage them throughout their stay. There is this type of charm amongst the volunteers I would often take it a step farther and plan weekend excursions and after work excursions. We finished up not just changing the lifestyles of others, but shifting the lives of each other. Working together with Habitat gave me the confidence to believe that I could accomplish any job, but more importantly it gave me a real sense of pride in being ready to work hard at work worth doing.
As often as I could I’d break out from the office and take volunteers on build trips to Habitat building landscapes throughout Costa Rica. It was heart warming to see first hand the culmination of one’s job. Out at the sight we’d work together with the benefitting Habitat family who was always very receptive, helpful, and appreciative of the help. The spectacle was a great amalgamation of civilizations, economic backgrounds, and beliefs. Yet the frequent bond that tied us together was the simple notion of building a home. Just seeing everybody else working, laughing, smiling, and sharing generated a feeling so rich with emotion it made me reconsider the way I recognized wealth. Your house was emblematic of more than just a place of dwelling. It represented a unity, a coming together, and also an inherent understanding of equality that we’ll carry with us to the remainder of our lives. As cliché as it may sound, it was authentic. We were not only building homes, we were building resides.
Internationally or domestically, conflict resolution or human rights, poverty or the environment – it’s disheartening to think there are many methods to get involved and give back to the global community. It isn’t important where you begin to get started making positive gifts just as long when you make your decision to actually start somewhere. Fundamentally, this is among the toughest decisions to make. Can I eliminate poverty housing? Not really close. Did I succeed? Absolutely! The calmness of my experience taught me that I cannot eliminate poverty housing, that directed me into this answer I was looking for. Perhaps 1 person can not change the planet, however, the entire world can definitely change for a single individual. And it has this domino effect, which should disperse across the globe we can, together, achieve the unthinkable and create a world that reflects the warmth of mankind in the place of its indifference.
