building vs house – Building vs Buying a Home: Consider the Benefits to You
The sun beat down from overhead with this kind of intensity I was breaking out in a sweat when sitting in the color. I used ton’t mind the heat so much, I was simply happy to be outside. Yet, it did slow the rate of our progress at the construction website. It was grinding work between digging, mixing concrete, laying blocks, and bending rebar, most of that I had little to no working expertise in.
I’ll admit that construction houses was not in my job description. As I sat there with my back against a tree I squeezed a half bottle of water on my mind. A smile crossed my face, not because I felt much joyful, however because I was truly happy. I welcomed a gentle breeze that unexpectedly drifted round the scene and required my thoughts with it. My mind began to wonder. Just how can I arrive here?
Are not there something more alive than routine and monotony? Occasionally I would often wonder if most everyone was really getting in the morning motivated by the job they were doing and how their lifestyles were unfolding. I needed a change. I needed to become actively engaged in something positive which would give me a feeling of purpose. Does that exist, and if so where can I register? Perhaps it’s easier said than done. Yet, I finally took the initiative and started to realize this dream when I traveled to Costa Rica on a whim and found myself volunteering with Habitat for Humanity International. Can one person really transform the whole world? I desired to discover.
Habitat only started a brand new International Volunteer Program (IVP) to get long term volunteers and I had been the very first to experience the app. My official name was the Volunteer Coordinator for Latin America & the Caribbean. I felt that this is a tremendous opportunity since the company was constructed and existed the aid of volunteers. Beginning I was a bit on edge, in due time I found my groove within the Habitat frame. It was unbelievable – I was actually enjoying off ice job. I participate in the development of substances such as a volunteer manual, interview guides, and test forms. I caused a task force for its continuous advancement of this IVP program. I administered an onsite volunteer training regime at El Salvador. The greatest part about my job was getting to work along with other volunteers, people who were there not because that they had to be but were there simply because they wished to become.
As far as the volunteers were concerned my job was to coordinate home and arrival logistics, administer orientations, and support them through the duration of their stay. There was such a charm amongst the volunteers I’d often simply take it a step further and plan weekend excursions and after work outings. We finished up not just altering the lives of many others, however, changing the lives of eachother. Working together with Habitat gave me the confidence to believe I can accomplish almost any endeavor, but more importantly it gave me a genuine sense of pride in being able to work hard at work worth doing.
As often as I could I’d break out from the workplace and accept volunteers on build trips to Habitat building landscapes throughout Costa Rica. It was heartwarming to see firsthand the culmination of work. Out at the sight we’d work alongside the benefiting Habitat family who was always very receptive, helpful, and appreciative of our help. The scene was a great amalgamation of cultures, economic backgrounds, and beliefs. Yet the frequent bond that tied us together wasn’t the easy notion of developing a home. Only seeing every one working, laughing, grinning, and sharing generated a feeling so rich with emotion it made me reconsider the way I recognized wealth. The home was symbolic greater than only a place of dwelling. It symbolized a unity, a coming together, and an inherent understanding of equality which we’ll carry with us for the rest of our lives. As cliché as it might sound, it was true. We’re not just building homes, we were building resides.
Internationally or domestically, conflict settlement or individual rights, poverty or the surroundings – it’s disheartening to consider there are many ways to get involved and give back to the international community. However, these issues exist not to create despair but activity. It doesn’t matter where you start to begin making positive contributions just as long when you make the decision to actually start somewhere. Fundamentally, this really is one of the toughest decisions to produce. I picked the movement of eliminating poverty housing. Can I eradicate poverty housing? Maybe not really close. Can I succeed? Definitely! The serenity of my experience taught me that I cannot do away with poverty housing, which directed me into the answer I was searching for. Perhaps 1 man can not change the world, but the entire world can certainly change for one individual. And it has this domino effect, that should spread throughout the globe we can, together, achieve the unimaginable and make a world that reflects the heat of humanity as an alternative of its own indifference.
