building your house vs buying – Under garden basements 5 great reasons to go under
The sun beat down from overhead with this kind of intensity I had been breaking out in a sweat whilst sitting in the shade. I used ton’t mind the heat, I was just glad to be out. However, it did impede the rate of our progress at the construction website.
I will acknowledge that construction houses was perhaps not in my own job description. As I sat there with my back against a shrub I squeezed a half jar of water on my mind. A grin crossed my face, not because I felt refreshed, however because I had been truly content. I recognized a gentle breeze which unexpectedly drifted across the scene and took my own thoughts with it. My mind started to wonder. How did I arrive here?
Wasn’t there something more to life than regular and monotony? At times I would often wonder if most everyone was really waking up in the morning motivated by the job that they were doing and how their lives were unfolding. I wanted a switch. I needed to eventually become consciously engaged in something positive that will give me a feeling of purpose. Does that also exist, and if yes where do I register? Perhaps it’s easier said than done. Yet, I finally took the initiative and started to see this dream when I traveled to Costa Rica to a whim and found myself volunteering with Habitat for Humanity International. Can one person really transform the whole world? I needed to discover.
Habitat for Humanity International is a nonprofit, ecumenical Christian organization dedicated to eliminating substandard housing and homelessness worldwide and making decent, affordable shelter a matter of conscience and activity. Habitat just started a brand new International Volunteer Program (IVP) for long-term volunteers and that I had been the initial to go through the app. I felt that this is an enormous opportunity since the organization was built and existed on the aid of volunteers. Beginning I had been somewhat on edge, in the time I found my groove over the Habitat frame. It was incredible – that I was actually enjoying off ice work. I participate in the development of materials such as a volunteer manual, meeting guides, and evaluation forms. I worked with a task force for the continuous advancement of this IVP program. I handled an on-site volunteer training plan at El Salvador. Yet the best part in my job was getting to work alongside other volunteers, those who were there not because they had to be but were there simply because they wished to be.
As far as the volunteers were concerned my job was to coordinate housing and arrival logistics, administer orientations, and support them throughout their stay. There is this type of charisma between the volunteers I’d go on it a step further and plan weekend trips and after work excursions. We wound up not just changing the lives of others, however, shifting the lifestyles of each other.
Normally as I could I’d break out from the office and accept volunteers build trips to Habitat building landscapes throughout Costa Rica. It was heart warming to see first hand the culmination of one’s job. Out at the sight we’d work alongside the benefiting Habitat family who was always very receptive, helpful, and appreciative of the help. The scene was a amazing amalgamation of cultures, economic backgrounds, and faith. The frequent bond which tied us together was the easy notion of developing a home. Only watching everybody working, laughing, smiling, and sharing generated a feeling so rich with emotion that I made me rethink how I recognized riches. The house was emblematic greater than just a place of residence. It represented a motto, a coming together, and an inherent comprehension of equality that we’ll carry together for the remainder of our own lives. As cliché as it may sound, it had been authentic. We’re not just building houses, but we were building resides.
Internationally or conflict resolution or individual rights, poverty or the surroundings – it’s disheartening to consider there are so many methods to get involved and give back to the international community. It isn’t important where you start to start making positive contributions just as long as you make your decision to actually start somewhere. Fundamentally, this really is one of the toughest decisions to make. Did I eradicate poverty housing? Maybe not even close. Did I succeed? Absolutely! The serenity of my experience taught me that I cannot eliminate poverty housing, that directed me into this answer I was searching for. Perhaps 1 man can’t change the planet, but the entire world can certainly change for one person. And it’s this domino effect, that should disperse across the globe we can, together, achieve the unthinkable and create a world that reflects the warmth of humanity instead of its own indifference.
