building your own house – Photo example of a small beach home on Isla Grande in Panama
I used ton’t mind the heat so much, I was only glad to be out. However it did slow the rate of our progress at the construction site.
I’ll admit that construction houses was perhaps not in my own job description. A grin crossed my face, not because I felt much joyful, however because I had been truly content. I recognized a gentle breeze which unexpectedly swept across the scene and required my thoughts withit. My mind began to wonder. How can I get here?
For many years that I had the dream of living abroad, learning a new language and experiencing a different culture. Wasn’t there something more your than regular and monotony? At times I would often wonder if most people were really getting in the morning inspired by the work they were doing and how their lifestyles were unfolding. I had a switch. I wanted to eventually become actively engaged with something positive which would provide me with a sense of purpose. Does that also exist, and if yes where can I sign up? Perhaps it’s easier said than done. Can anyone really change the whole world? I wanted to find out.
Habitat only started a fresh International Volunteer Program (IVP) for long-term volunteers and that I was the initial to go through the program. I believed that this was a tremendous opportunity since the organization was constructed and existed on the aid of volunteers. Starting out I was a bit on edge, but in the time I found my groove over the Habitat framework. It was incredible – I was actually enjoying off ice work. I participate in the evolution of substances such as an volunteer manual, meeting guides, and evaluation forms. I worked with a task force for the continuous advancement of the IVP program. I administered an onsite volunteer training program at El Salvador. The best part in my job was getting to work along side other volunteers, those who were there not because they had to function but were there only because they wished to become.
As far as the volunteers were concerned, my role was to coordinate housing and coming logistics, then administer orientations, and encourage them throughout their stay. There was this type of charisma amongst the volunteers I would often take it a step farther and plan weekend excursions and after-work outings. We ended up not simply altering the lives of many others, but shifting the lifestyles of eachother. Dealing with Habitat gave me the confidence to feel I can accomplish any job, however more importantly it gave me a more genuine sense of satisfaction in being ready to work hard at work worth doing.
Normally as I could I would break out from the workplace and take volunteers build trips to Habitat construction sights during Costa Rica. It was heartwarming to see firsthand the culmination of work. Out at the sight we’d work alongside the benefiting Habitat family who was consistently very open-minded, friendly, and respectful of our help. The scene was a great amalgamation of civilizations, economic backgrounds, and faith. The frequent bond that tied us together was the easy notion of creating a home. Only seeing everyone working, laughing, smiling, and discussing generated a feeling therefore rich with emotion that it made me rethink how I recognized riches. Your home was emblematic greater than just a place of dwelling. It represented a unity, a coming together, and an inherent understanding of equality that we’ll carry together for the rest of our lives. As cliché as it may sound, it was true. We’re not just building homes, we were building resides.
Internationally or conflict resolution or human rights, poverty or the surroundings – it’s disheartening to believe there are many ways to get involved and give back to the global community. It doesn’t matter where you start to begin making positive contributions equally so long when you make the decision to actually start somewhere. Fundamentally, this really is among the toughest decisions to create. I chose the movement of eliminating poverty housing. Can I eliminate poverty housing? Maybe not even close. Did I succeed? Absolutely! The serenity of my experience taught me that I cannot do away with poverty housing, that directed me into the answer I was searching for. Perhaps one person can’t change the entire world, but the planet can surely change for a single person. And it has this domino effect, that should disperse throughout the planet we could, collectively, achieve the unimaginable and make a world that reflects the heat of humankind as an alternative of its indifference.
