I used ton’t mind the heat, I was just happy to be out. However it did slow the rate of our progress at the construction website.
I’ll admit that building houses was perhaps not in my own job description. A smile crossed my face, not because I felt joyful, however because I was truly pleased. I recognized a gentle breeze that suddenly drifted round the scene and took my own thoughts withit. My mind began to wonder. Just how can I arrive here?
Wasn’t there something more your than regular and monotony? Sometimes I’d often wonder if a lot of people were really waking up at the morning inspired by the job they were doing and how their lives were unfolding. I wanted a change. I desired to become actively engaged with something positive which could provide me with a feeling of purpose. Does that also exist, and if so where can I subscribe? Perhaps it’s easier said than done. Can one person really transform the whole world? I wanted to learn.
Habitat simply started a fresh International Volunteer Program (IVP) to get long-term volunteers and that I was the initial to experience the app. I believed this was a tremendous opportunity since the company was constructed and existed on the aid of volunteers. Starting out I was a bit on edge, but in the time I found my groove within the Habitat frame. It was unbelievable – that I was actually enjoying off ice job. I participate in the development of materials like a volunteer manual, interview guides, and test forms. I caused a taskforce for its continuous improvement of this IVP program. I even administered an on-site volunteer training program at El Salvador. Yet the greatest part in my job was to work alongside other volunteers, people who weren’t because they had to function but have there been only because they wanted to become.
So far as the volunteers have been concerned, my role was to coordinate home and coming logistics, then administer orientations, and support them throughout their stay. There is this type of charisma between the volunteers I’d simply take it a step further and plan weekend trips and after-work outings. We ended up not simply altering the lifestyles of many others, but changing the lives of eachother. Dealing together with Habitat gave me the confidence to believe that I can accomplish almost any job, however more importantly it gave me a real sense of fulfillment in being able to perform hard at work worth doing.
As often as I could I’d break out from the workplace and accept volunteers build trips to Habitat building landscapes throughout Costa Rica. It was heartwarming to see first hand the culmination of work. Out at the sight we’d work alongside the benefiting Habitat family that was consistently very open-minded, friendly, and respectful of our help. The spectacle was a wonderful amalgamation of cultures, economic backgrounds, and beliefs. Yet the frequent bond that tied us together wasn’t the simple notion of building a home. Only seeing every one working, laughing, grinning, and sharing generated an atmosphere so rich with emotion that it made me reconsider the way I recognized riches. The home was symbolic greater than just a place of residence. It symbolized a unity, a coming together, along with an inherent comprehension of equality that we’ll carry together for the rest of our own lives. As cliché as it might sound, it had been authentic. We’re not only building homes, we were building resides.
Internationally or domestically, conflict settlement or human rights, poverty or the environment – it’s disheartening to believe there are so many ways to get involved and give back to the global community. But these problems exist not to create despair but activity. It doesn’t matter where you start to begin making positive contributions just as long when you make your choice to actually start somewhere. Ultimately, this really is one of the toughest decisions to create. I decided the movement of eliminating poverty housing. Can I eradicate poverty housing? Not even close. Did I succeed? Absolutely! The calmness of my experience taught me that I cannot get rid of poverty housing, that led me to the answer I was looking for. Perhaps 1 man can’t change the planet, however, the world can certainly change for a single person. And it has this domino effect, that should spread across the globe we can, collectively, achieve the unthinkable and make a world that reflects the heat of humankind as an alternative of its own indifference.
